Just after Lani's car goes over the lava falls in the first leg of the World Race, you see Vert and Banjee make a jump (just before they go into a cave). If you examine the Deora II closely during the jump, you'll see that the surfboards, normally on the back, are now missing. They do return in the next scene where Vert joins Taro in pulling Lani up to safety.
