Vert started out in the movie as a self-centered loner (''I'm a team of one''), but quickly got into the team spirit with the Wave Rippers. Vert showed concern and good competitive spirit with his fellow drivers on all teams. Nicknamed ''Surf Rat'' by the other drivers, Vert gained the respect of all with his driving skills and good social graces.

Full name is Josef ''Vert'' Wheeler.

The comics and World Race DVD Garage describes him as ''one of the finest all around surfer/skaters in the world.''

The voice of Vert is played by Andrew Francis.
